For the third time our school, “G. Verga” from Viagrande, had a meeting by a video conferencing with Saint Mary’s on the Hill school, from Cork. It happened on the 25th of February, when it was 12:30 in Italy and 11:30 in Ireland. The subject of the conversation was Carnival: the Irish pupils are going to make some masks, so our students showed them the masks they have just made and explained how they have made them. The Italian students also spoke about what they did for the last Carnival, while the Irish pupils gave them some news about Saint Patrick festival, that will be on the 17th of March. At about 1:00, Italian time, the conference ended, leaving all of us happy and satisfied.

CARNIVAL in SICILY

Here are some news, recipes and activities made by the Pupils from Sicily for the celebration of Carnival.

SPAIN CELEBRATES ST.DAVID`S DAY

On the First of March we will celebrate St.David´s day as all our Comenius Countries. Please feel free to read about St. David´s and try to cook our delicious recipe for this day:
Saint David, BISHOP, (c. 500–589) (Welsh: Dewi Sant) was a church official; he was later regarded as a saint and as the patron saint of Wales. In contrast with the other national patron saints of the British Isles, Saints George, Andrew and Patrick, David is a native of the country of which he is patron saint, and a relatively large amount of information is known about his life. However, his birth date is still uncertain, as suggestions range from 462 to 512.
On the top of this info, we will establish our Welsh Corner at the School to show our pupils many attractive items from Wales.

2nd Video-Conferencing ITALY-IRELAND

On the 4th of February 2009 the students of our school, “Verga” of Viagrande (Italy), and those of the Irish one, “St. Mary’s on the Hill” of Cork, had their 2nd video – conferencing. The meeting started at 12,30 p.m. (Italian time) and lasted about thirteen minutes. Even if there were some technical problems it was a great experience. Six Sicilian students, aged 12, were able to talk to six Irish “colleagues” of the same age. The topic was “hobbies”, and each child spoke about his / her favourite sport, film, music, actor, singer, and more.It was wonderful to realize that those children, living so far one from another, share the same interests…
So, see you in a few weeks for the next video – conferencing! Ciao!!!
